The mighty Kingfish, the unicorn, powerhouse and a fish that every fisherman dreams of landing. Catching these titans will test your skills and strength but well worth the fight.
I’ve always loved painting fish or interesting sea creatures. It give me a chance to really study the colour and detail and how I would interpret it in my style. This Kingfish painting was no different. The original was painted on a very large sheet of thick watercolour paper 500x650mm, which is perfect for a fish of this size to add in all the detail to the face and fins and add in some extra colour to the body. Another bonus painting something at a bigger size is when its scaled down to a A4 print, that detail is still present and comes alive, with the appearance of it being life like or close to a photograph. This Kingfish was painted similar to my ‘Old Bonzy’ Snapper painting, with the fish on a slight angle and the tail slightly blurred to suggest movement.
